Field Hockey

Sport Overview
We’re excited for another great season of Deerfield Girls Field Hockey!
Field hockey is a no-cut sport at the freshman level—all freshmen who come out will be placed on a team. We offer three levels of play: JVB, JVA, and Varsity.
JVB: Primarily made up of freshmen and sophomores
JVA: Typically includes sophomores, juniors, and seniors (with occasional freshmen)
Varsity: Open to players from all grade levels
Each level offers a different competitive experience:
JVB: All athletes will receive equal playing time
JVA: All athletes will play, though playing time will vary
Varsity: Playing time is not guaranteed and is based on performance, effort, and team needs
Our teams practice six days a week, and games are typically scheduled 1–3 times per week. Game and practice schedules will be communicated in advance as the season progresses.
At Deerfield, we believe in growing the game by focusing on building strong field hockey fundamentals, fostering a fun and competitive environment, and developing a passion for the sport. We aim to provide opportunities for as many athletes as possible, and we do our best to avoid cuts. However, team sizes must remain within a safe and manageable range to ensure quality coaching, meaningful playing time, and individualized feedback.
We look forward to a season filled with growth, teamwork, and exciting competition!
