School Safety Committee

• Foster a safe and supportive learning environment where students can thrive academically, emotionally and socially while promoting a sense of trust and security within the community
• Assess the safety climate and enhance the well-being of students, staff and the broader school community
• Facilitate communication and collaboration between the schools, students, parents and district stakeholders
• Educate families and community members on current safety trends and available school resources
• Seek input from students, staff, and parents to evaluate safety systems and address emerging concerns

Note: The committee will not have the authority to adopt new or modify existing District 113 Board Policies or Procedures.

• The D113 School Safety Committee will meet quarterly during the school year
• The meetings will be 90 minutes long and will be held after school
• Members who are selected will be expected to commit the time and energy to attend meetings, contribute ideas and participate in activities

• The process will be open and transparent
• Every student and parent/guardian has the opportunity to apply
• The committee will reflect the diversity that exists within our school community
• Parents and caregivers from each grade level will be prioritized to ensure new perspectives and experienced insights will be included 
• All candidates will be required to submit a form identifying their interests, experience and expectations for serving on this committee

• Committee materials will be presented in multiple languages, as needed, and meeting times will be accessible for working parents
