Orchestra

Concert Orchestra/Advisory

Freshman string players enroll in Concert Orchestra, a performance-based class focused on developing fundamental string technique and musicianship. This course also fulfills the Freshman Advisory requirement. The Concert Orchestra performs in joint concerts with the Symphony Orchestra throughout the year.

Symphony Orchestra

Sophomore through senior string players may join the Symphony Orchestra with permission from the director. Wind and percussion students must also be enrolled in Wind Ensemble to participate.

Chamber Orchestra

The Chamber Orchestra is a performance-based, audition-only class open to advanced string players. Students must also be enrolled in either Concert Orchestra or Symphony Orchestra. Rehearsals are held daily during early bird.

In addition to regular DHS concerts, the Chamber Orchestra serves as a featured ensemble within the Deerfield community. All orchestras have the opportunity to participate in musical productions, community performances, recording projects, contests, festivals, retreats and touring experiences—including past trips to Israel (2015), Arizona (2013), New York (2011), Orlando (2009), San Francisco (2008) and Eastern Europe (2006).
