EIU Academic Challenge

EIU Academic Challenge is currently not running for the 25/26 school year

Club Overview

The EIU Academic Challenge Team competes against other high schools at the regional, sectional and state levels. More than 8,000 students across Illinois participate each year in this competition, which tests knowledge in seven engineering-related subjects.

During competitions, students take multiple-choice tests in two of the following areas: math, chemistry, physics, biology, English, computer science and engineering graphics. Team scores are calculated and compared, with trophies awarded to top teams and medals given to high-performing individuals. This event attracts many of the top academic students in Illinois.

Team members commit to a minimum of one to one and a half hours of study per week during the six-month season (November–April).

Interested students should speak with the sponsor(s) to learn more about qualifications. Due to the challenging nature of the tests, this activity is primarily open to highly capable juniors and seniors who are currently enrolled in or have completed AP classes in the relevant subjects.
