Social Studies
Overview
The Deerfield High School Social Studies Department empowers students to become informed, responsible citizens in a democratic society and global community. Through the study of history, civics and contemporary issues, students develop critical thinking skills, civic awareness and an appreciation for diverse perspectives. The curriculum emphasizes democratic values, intellectual curiosity and respect for human dignity. Students are required to complete four semesters of Social Studies, including two semesters of United States History and one semester of civics. Many colleges recommend or require additional coursework in the discipline.
